Caregiving Has Taught Me to Laugh… or Lose My Mind

No one warns you how funny caregiving can be.
One morning, I spent ten minutes looking for my dad’s glasses—only to find them on his face. He looked at me and said, “Well, would you look at that.”
Another day, he told me very seriously that the dog had been stealing his socks. We don’t have a dog.
Caregiving is exhausting, yes—but sometimes it’s hilarious in ways you don’t expect.
I’ve learned to laugh when plans fall apart, when conversations go sideways, and when things don’t make sense anymore. If I didn’t laugh, I think I’d cry all the time. The truth is, humor has saved me. It reminds me that even in the middle of responsibility and stress, there are still moments of light.
If you’re a caregiver who’s ever laughed at something you probably shouldn’t have congratulations. You’re surviving.
